🎉 Retirement Spotlight: Peggy Harris 🎉

In May, the Farmington School District is recognizing retiring staff. Today, we celebrate a true classroom legend! After an incredible 42 years in education, including 20 years dedicated to the Farmington School District, Peggy Harris is retiring.

As the heart of Classroom 119 at FHS, Peggy has served as our Family and Consumer Science (FCS) teacher and a devoted adviser for the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). From her early years teaching English Language Arts (ELA) and Science to her leadership of future leaders, Peggy has spent over four decades championing student growth.

Peggy’s impact is not only measured in the years she taught, but also in the confidence she instilled in every student who walked through her door. Her mission was to ensure every student felt like "somebody" and understood their right to be valued. Beyond life skills, Peggy focused on character development, helping students realize their full potential as they move forward in their life journeys. She leaves behind a powerful legacy of kindness, compassion, and community.

Reflecting on her career, Peggy stated, "I hope I gave students the confidence they need to move forward on their journey and to make everyone feel like they are somebody."

Peggy leaves the FSD community with a beautiful reminder that applies to the classroom and beyond as she states, "Remember that everyone, especially students, have lives we don't understand, so give some grace."

Peggy, thank you for 42 years of wisdom, leadership, and grace. Your influence at FHS has shaped the futures of so many. We wish you a wonderful and well-deserved retirement! 🖤💛

🏆 A Day of Heart and Hustle 🏆

This past Thursday was nothing short of incredible for our community! Area school districts teamed up to host an unforgettable Special Olympics event, and the energy on the field was absolutely electric!

Seeing students from across the region come together not just as competitors, but as teammates and cheerleaders was a powerful reminder of what happens when we lead with kindness and inclusion. From the opening ceremony to the medal presentations, the day was defined by high-fives, pure joy, and some seriously impressive athleticism!

Highlights from the day included...
🌟Unstoppable Spirit: Watching every athlete give their all served as a powerful reminder of what true perseverance and heart look like in action.
🌟Our Student Heroes: A massive shoutout to our student volunteers and "buddies" for their incredible dedication. You made sure every athlete felt like a superstar.
🌟A Community United: There was nothing quite like seeing the stands packed with parents, teachers, and neighbors cheering on the athletes.

We couldn’t be prouder of every single participant. Thursday proved that it’s not just about the competition. It is about building a community where everyone belongs. 🖤💛

⚖️ We are incredibly proud to share some exciting news about our very own Keli Keutzer and a statewide initiative to empower Missouri's youth! ⚖️

What started as a local mock trial for 70 of our summer school students has evolved into a valuable resource that will benefit children across the entire state. Judge Patrick L. King (Division IV, St. Francois County) recently shared the journey of creating a brand-new Missouri Children's Court Activity Book, in which Keli played a crucial role.

The project started in the summer of 2024 when Keli collaborated with Judge King to host a successful mock trial for 70 summer school students, an event that highlighted the need for better educational tools for younger children. Recognizing this gap, Judge King envisioned adapting a specialized children's activity book, previously used in California and Wisconsin, specifically for Missouri’s court system. Keli joined an elite task force of judges, educators, and child advocates to thoroughly review and refine the content, ensuring the material was both accessible and engaging for students. A couple of weeks ago, those efforts reached a major milestone as the Missouri Supreme Court officially approved the book for publication, a victory Judge King credits in part to Keli’s steadfast advice and encouragement.

"Keli was there when I reached out to her for her help and advice. For her support and encouragement, I will always be grateful." — Judge Patrick L. King.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Judge King for his leadership and for including FSD's very own educator, Keli Keutzer, in this prestigious project. And, of course, a massive round of applause for Keli Keutzer for her dedication to civic education and our students! 🌟

🎉 Retirement Spotlight: Cary Helms  🎉

In May, the Farmington School District is recognizing retiring staff. After 22 years of dedicated service, all of them spent right here within the Farmington School District, Cary Helms is preparing for her next great adventure!

Cary has been a fixture in the Lincoln Intermediate community, shaping young minds in both 5th and 6th grade Science and Math. Currently serving as a 6th-grade Science teacher, Cary’s impact goes far beyond the classroom.

For Cary, teaching was never just about the curriculum. It was about the people. She has worked tirelessly to ensure her classroom is a place where students feel respected, challenged, and supported. She has left behind a legacy of students who are more confident, deeper thinkers, and forever curious about the world around them. Cary’s goal has been to support growth and consistency that will benefit FSD long after she leaves the classroom.

When asked about her career, Cary stated, "If I helped even a few people believe in themselves a little more... then I’d consider my time here meaningful."

Cary’s parting words of wisdom for her colleagues are to build relationships first. Students learn best from teachers they trust and feel connected to. Take time to know students beyond academics.

Cary, thank you for 22 years of heart, dedication, and excellence at Lincoln Intermediate. You have made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students and staff members! 🖤💛

🩺 FSD is Celebrating our Healthcare Heroes Today on National School Nurse Day! 🩺

Since 1972, National School Nurse Day has been a special time to recognize the incredible impact school nurses have on our community. This day was established to raise awareness of the vital role school nurses play in the educational environment. School nurses are advocates for student mental and physical wellness and serve as liaisons between healthcare providers, families, and the classroom.

The Farmington School District Nurses are defined by their expertise, their calm under pressure, and the compassion they show students every single day. They are an essential part of the fabric of our schools, ensuring that every child has the support they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

🏥 FSD says THANK YOU to each of our nurses! 🏥

🎉 Retirement Spotlight: Cathy O'Sullivan 🎉

In May, the Farmington School District is recognizing retiring staff. Today, we bid a bittersweet "see you later" to a true pillar of the Farmington School District staff. After 25 incredible years in education, dedicated entirely to FSD students, Cathy O'Sullivan is retiring!

From her days in the self-contained 5th-grade classroom to her expertise in teaching 5th and 6th grade Math and Science, Cathy has spent a quarter-century shaping minds at Lincoln. Cathy's mission has always extended beyond textbooks and assignments. Her focus has been on helping students realize their capabilities and potential, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning and think for themselves. Cathy has always built a classroom environment where every child feels supported, challenged, and valued. Mrs. O'Sullivan says, "If students left my class a little more confident and curious, that would mean everything."

As she closes her classroom door for the last time, Cathy leaves FSD staff with these powerful reminders...
✅ Give yourself grace. Not every lesson will be perfect.
✅ Prioritize management. A well-managed classroom is the foundation for building lasting relationships.
✅ Consistency and care are what truly matter.

Cathy, thank you for 25 years of heart, science, and inspiration. You have left a legacy of thinkers and believers that will influence the Farmington community for generations to come! 🖤💛

🎉 Retirement Spotlight: Kelli Greif 🎉

In May, the Farmington School District is recognizing retiring staff. Today, we celebrate the remarkable career of Kelli Greif, who is retiring after an impressive 33 years in education!

Kelli has spent 16 of those years serving our Black Knight community through her vital roles as an Attendance Administrative Assistant at Lincoln, Truman, and, finally, the High School. Throughout her time in the district, Kelli has been a constant, friendly face.

When asked how she would like to be remembered, Kelli humbly responded, "That I was really nice and sometimes a little funny."
Beyond her warmth and humor, Kelli has been a champion for our students' success. She hopes students will continue to recognize that showing up for school and being present are fundamental building blocks of their entire education. Kelli's parting wisdom is a lesson for us all, "It is so easy to be kind to everyone."

Thank you, Kelli, for your decades of dedication, your humor, and for brightening our halls at Farmington. We wish you all the best in your well-deserved retirement! 🖤💛
