Today, we honor Juneteenth (June 19th)—a day of profound reflection, celebration, and renewal.
While the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure all enslaved people finally learned they were free.
Juneteenth reminds us of the resilience, strength, and invaluable contributions of African Americans. It's a day to celebrate how far we’ve come, while recognizing the continuous, collective work required to build a world rooted in true equity and justice.

Seeing these kids cheer each other on, try their best, and just enjoy being kids was the absolute best part of our week. Huge shoutout to our teachers who made the day a success, and a massive round of applause for our students who brought the hustle and the smiles! 👏

As summer school wraps up today for K-8, our talented 5th and 6th graders have been hard at work this week, diving into some seriously cool hands-on projects. We are so proud of their focus and imagination!

Bumblebee Flower Pots: 🐝
After putting the finishing touches on their textured bee planters, they got a little messy today filling them with dirt! They’re perfectly sized to hold a little spring bloom! 🌸
Hand-Woven Kumihimo bracelets:🧵
Combining patience and vibrant color palettes, they’ve been learning intricate weaving techniques to create beautiful, wearable art.

She wants to become a Prosecuting Attorney after attending Mineral Area College, the University of Missouri and then law school. Building Resilience, One Jump at a Time 🧠🛠️
Our 4th graders just took "hands-on learning" to a whole new level! For their latest STEM project, they became mechanical engineers and built their very own jumping robots.
From calculating angles to tweaking rubber band tension, these students showed incredible perseverance. There were plenty of trial-and-error moments, but seeing their creations finally take to the air made it worth the effort! 🙌
Talk about taking learning to new heights. 📈 Little engineers, big ideas!

🏡 A Step Back in Time! 🎒
Earlier in the week, the 4th graders were out exploring the Historic Long House right here in downtown Farmington!
From walking through the historic rooms to learning about the incredible stories preserved by the U.S. National Park Service, our 4th graders got a firsthand look at the rich heritage that shapes our community.
The house is located at 400 Ste. Genevieve Avenue and the original home was built of log construction containing one room downstairs and one upstairs, with an enclosed stairway and fireplace. On the north lawn stands a granite pyramidal structure (visible at about 3 o'clock in the photo collage) identifying the site of the first industry in Farmington, a tannery, owned by Phillip Graham Long. When this marker was being built a stone was placed by every remaining member of the Long family.
A huge thank you to the rangers and volunteers who made this field trip so memorable, interactive, and fun. Our students left with big smiles, great questions, and a newfound appreciation for local history!

Our 7th and 8th graders had an incredible, behind-the-scenes field trip to Chick-fil-A this morning! They got an exclusive look at what it takes to run one of the busiest kitchens around, rotating through three awesome interactive stations:
Station 1: The Business Blueprint 📊
Students dove into the history of the company and learned the ins and outs of what it really takes to operate a successful restaurant. They also learned the answer to the trivia question. Future entrepreneurs in the making!
Station 2: The Breakfast Rush 🥐
They took a tour of the kitchen right in the middle of the morning hustle! The best part? They got to taste-test the fresh biscuits they actually made.
Station 3: Quality Control 🍗
Our students learned about the strict quality assessment standards that keep the food so delicious—and wrapped it up with a final taste test of the iconic chicken sandwich.
Huge thanks to Ken Reeder and the amazing team at Chick-fil-A for hosting us, sharing your knowledge, and feeding our crew! Reeder went from working at Chick-fil-A at 15 years old to being the owner of the Farmington location. His group including Courtney Reeder, Caitlyn Walker and Jessica DePew were outstanding!
And do you some inside info on how to get some free food? 🤫 Breakfast tomorrow morning is on CFA! Every Tuesday in June, 2026 from 6:30-10:30am CST they offer a free Mystery Breakfast and all you need to do is request the item when placing your order! 🍞 Farmhouse Bakery: We started the week with a behind-the-scenes tour to see how the magic happens—and yes, we got to sample some delicious treats!
🚒 Farmington Fire Department: Next, we visited our local heroes. The kids learned all about the life-saving equipment, got an up-close look at the trucks, and practiced important fire safety tips.
🍦 Columbia Mercantile: We wrapped up an incredible week the best way we know how—with a sweet ice cream treat!
A massive thank you to all the local spots that welcomed our students with open arms. We are so proud of how our second graders represented our school this week!

Also me: Remembering that Missouri has 46 species of snakes and St. Joe is basically prime reptile real estate: 🛑🐍 NOPE! I'm out on this one. But for those who braved the park...
So much learning and energy was packed into one day:
🐍 Reptile Encounter: The kids got up close and personal with some incredible reptiles. (The bravery of 9 and 10-year-olds holding a snake is next level!)
🦅 Bird Watching: Along with other native birds, they came across a young baby fledgling that was SO SMALL!
🦌 Park & Wildlife Exploration: We hiked the trails, learned about the importance of taking care of our parks and everything St. Joe State Park has to offer. They get to spend some time on the playground too (there were no snakes there!).
Huge shoutout to St. Joe State Park for hosting us and especially to Assistant Supervisor Billie Tedford as well as Naturalists Gabrielle Johnson and Mary Crowell for organizing the amazing experience! Just keep the snakes in your neck of the woods...LITERALLY!

Today, our history books came to life as the 4th-grade class took a step back in time to visit some of the beautiful historic houses right here in the Farmington area including the McCormick House and the Morrison House!
From exploring colonial architecture to learning what daily life looked like hundreds of years ago, our students became real-life history detectives. They asked thoughtful questions, got a firsthand look at local heritage, and represented our school beautifully.
A huge thank you Mayor Morrison and family for allowing us to tour your home and to the amazing volunteers who welcomed us.

We shared this back in early May, but now it's official! We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate the publication of their brand-new children’s activity book about the Missouri court system! 📚⚖️ This was a collaborative effort headlined by Farmington 4th grade teacher Keli Keutzer and Judge Patrick King. With the help of people throughout various districts across the state, the two spearheaded the creation of a book aimed towards children about the Missouri court system.
Navigating the world of law and government can be complicated, but Keutzer and Judge King have teamed up to make it accessible, engaging, and fun for the next generation of leaders. Through creative storytelling, they are demystifying the courts and inspiring kids to understand how our justice system works.
Thank you both for your dedication to civics education and for creating such a valuable resource for families, teachers, and curious young minds.
