School reserves are funds set aside to cover shortfalls and unexpected costs.

They are not designed to fund ongoing expenses year after year.

Over the past three years, the district has reduced spending by approximately $2.1 million through attrition and responsible budget adjustments.

Those decisions allowed us to adjust pay scales, implement Career Ladder, launch Discovery Schools, improve facilities, and add key student programs.

The graphs show two paths:
• Continued reserve decline if nothing changes
• Stabilized reserves with continued fiscal discipline and long-term planning

Understanding how reserves work helps explain why districts look at long-term financial planning tools.

Today, we celebrate the people who keep our schools running behind the scenes, our maintenance team.

From early mornings to late afternoons, they make sure our buildings are clean, safe, warm, cool, and ready for students and staff every day. When something breaks, they fix it. When the weather causes problems, they respond. When an event is happening, they help make it possible.

Many of the things they do go unnoticed, but they are essential to the daily life of our schools.

Thank you to our Farmington R-7 maintenance employees for the pride you take in your work and the care you show for our buildings and our community. We appreciate everything you do to keep our schools running smoothly.

All buses will run the regularly scheduled routes this afternoon.
Due to the heavy overnight rain, some areas in our district are experiencing significant flooding this morning. As a result, some school bus routes may not be able to operate normally.

If you live in an area that typically experiences flooding, we encourage you to transport your child to school this morning if it is safe for you to do so, as buses may not be able to safely reach those locations.

Our transportation team will continue monitoring road conditions as daylight approaches and the rain tapers off. We will evaluate routes throughout the day and will implement our flood plan for afternoon routes if needed.

The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the changing road conditions this morning.

Updates will be shared if additional changes are necessary.

The school tax levy has two main components:
Debt Service – pays debt from past construction
Operating – supports daily school operations

Together, they equal the total tax rate.

Proposition Transfer would adjust the balance between these two funds, while keeping the total rate unchanged.

Graphic titled “Ballot Language Breakdown – Proposition Transfer – 30¢ Levy Transfer.” The image displays the official ballot language voters will see for the April 7 election. The first section asks whether the Farmington R-7 School District should increase the operating tax levy to $3.0500 per $100 of assessed valuation beginning in Tax Year 2026 for purposes including attracting and retaining teachers and staff, maintaining facilities, and meeting additional operating expenses. The second section explains that the district intends to reduce the debt service levy by $0.3000 per $100 of assessed valuation to offset the operating levy increase, resulting in no change to the total tax levy. A summary section titled “What This Means” explains that the operating levy would increase by 30¢, the debt service levy would decrease by 30¢, and the total levy would remain $3.65. Visual envelopes labeled Debt Service Levy and Operating Levy show −30¢ and +30¢ to illustrate the transfer.

Before discussing financial planning tools, many community members ask what steps the district has already taken.
Over the past year, the district has:
• Reduced positions through attrition
• Consolidated roles
• Reviewed spending across departments
• Limited new expenditures where possible
These efforts help manage costs while maintaining school operations.
More details and a place to submit questions are available on the district website. www.fsdknights.com

Graphic titled “Planning Ahead for Our Schools – Steps We Have Taken.” The image features the Farmington R-7 knight logo and the heading “Budget Adjustments & Cost Controls” over an aerial photo of a school building. Text outlines actions taken by the district, including reducing positions through attrition, consolidating and restructuring roles, reviewing spending across departments, and limiting new expenditures. Budget cuts implemented total approximately $700,000 in 2024–25 and $600,000 in 2025–26. The graphic also states the district will continue evaluating supply budgets, absorbing staff through attrition or restructuring, maintaining core student programming, and has identified approximately $800,000 in additional savings for next year. A footer notes that more details and a question submission form are available on the district website.

State Bound for the Knights!

Congratulations to Aiden Hahn and Wyatt Fortune on qualifying for the MSHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Columbia.

Aiden captured 1st place at the District Tournament, and Wyatt battled his way to a strong 3rd place finish to punch his ticket to State.

That kind of performance does not happen by accident. It is built on discipline, grit, and countless hours on the mat.

Best of luck in Columbia, Aiden and Wyatt. Knight Nation is behind you. #BKP #TheKnightWay
