Today, we recognize Juneteenth — a day of reflection, education, and celebration. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free. This moment marked a decisive step forward in the long journey toward justice and equality. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. As we observe this day, we are reminded of the importance of learning from our past, listening to one another, and continuing to build a future rooted in dignity and unity for all.

Today, fourth-grade summer school students visited the Long House! The Long House is a historical home located here in Farmington. The home encapsulates the history of our town and what life was like in the past. It showcases historical events such as the Trail of Tears. Students enjoyed touring the house, asking questions, and roaming the grounds. Thank you to the amazing team of leaders at the Long House and to the City of Farmington for welcoming our students! Honoring the Stars and Stripes On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress approved the design of our national flag, marking the birth of a powerful symbol of freedom, unity, and resilience. While many communities had already been observing Flag Day, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 establishing Flag Day as a national holiday. Then, in 1949, President Harry Truman signed it into law, calling for an annual presidential proclamation and nationwide observance. Today, we continue the tradition by proudly displaying the flag and reflecting on all it represents. Happy Flag Day!
