Honoring the Stars and Stripes On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress approved the design of our national flag, marking the birth of a powerful symbol of freedom, unity, and resilience. While many communities had already been observing Flag Day, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 establishing Flag Day as a national holiday. Then, in 1949, President Harry Truman signed it into law, calling for an annual presidential proclamation and nationwide observance. Today, we continue the tradition by proudly displaying the flag and reflecting on all it represents. Happy Flag Day!

🏡 A Step Back in Time! Thanks to the thoughtful planning and hospitality of the Morrison family, Farmington 4th-grade students had a truly memorable learning experience this week! Jennifer, along with her husband, Mayor Chris Morrison, opened their beautiful 1901 home to students as part of a walking tour focused on the history of some of the older homes and architecture in Downtown Farmington. Inside the home, Jennifer shared fascinating details about historic features like transoms, parlors, and the original hand-poured glass in the sitting room cabinets. While waiting for their turn to tour, students enjoyed puzzles, yard games, and popsicles on the front lawn. Special thanks to Officer Vandiver and our 4th-grade teaching staff for accompanying the group. We’re so grateful to the Morrisons for bringing Farmington’s history to life in such a personal and engaging way! 🖤💛 #KnightsConnected #FarmingtonHistory #StrongSchools #StrongCommunity

Student Voice at Work: Farmington’s Future On June 10th, a group of Farmington students joined city leaders and community members at the Farmington Public Library to participate in the first Comprehensive Plan Open House, hosted by PGAV. Students explored big topics like housing, traffic, recreation, and the future of Downtown—and they didn’t hold back! From the need for more indoor recreation options to creative ideas like a Youth Civic Leadership Council and downtown redevelopment, our students have shown that they’re already thinking like community leaders. In addition to completing the City’s official community survey, they also answered a few reflection questions from the school district to help them think critically and engage in conversation during the event. 🔍 Here’s what stood out to them: ➡️ “A lot of people want single-family homes instead of apartments—and I didn’t realize how many felt the same.” ➡️ “I was surprised to learn how many people work outside of Farmington but want to work here.” ➡️ “We should focus on bringing more entertainment and retail to town. It helps both residents and tourism.” ➡️ “I thought only a council did the planning—I didn’t realize events like this let everyday people help shape our city.” Thank you to the City of Farmington for welcoming our students into this process. The future is brighter when we build it together. 💡 #StrongSchools #StrongCommunity #StudentVoice

Yesterday, students in our middle school program had the opportunity to visit the Missouri Mines State Historic Site in Park Hills, thanks to a Missouri State Parks Bus Grant that provided free transportation to and from the site. We’re grateful to @MoStateParks and the knowledgeable staff—Maddie, Gabrielle, Lily, and Daisy—for leading an engaging and educational experience. Students explored the environmental history of the region and gained a deeper understanding of how lead mining has impacted the local ecosystem. In the afternoon, they hiked the trail around the site and were excited to spot a wild turkey along the way! This experience supports our commitment to providing hands-on, real-world learning opportunities that connect classroom concepts with our region’s unique history and environment. #StrongSchools #StrongCommunity
