Farmington R-7School Resource Officers
The Farmington R-7 School District is committed to ensuring a safe and nurturing educational environment for all our students. In support of this commitment, we are proud to partner with the Farmington Police Department to include School Resource Officers (SROs) in our schools.
Our SROs are dedicated law enforcement officers from the Farmington Police Department, selected through a rigorous process and specially trained to work within educational settings. These officers serve not only as law enforcers but also as educators, informal counselors, and mentors to our students.
The purpose of the SRO program is multifaceted, aiming to provide secure learning environments, serve as valuable resources for school staff, foster positive relationships with students, and develop effective strategies to resolve issues affecting our youth. This holistic approach ensures that our students can pursue their educational goals in a safe and supportive setting.
The "triad concept," foundational to the SRO role, outlines their three main functions:
Educator: SROs engage as guest lecturers, providing guidance on law-related topics and safety.
Informal Counselor/Mentor: They offer advice and support to students, helping them navigate personal and social challenges.
Law Enforcement Officer: SROs maintain the safety of our school by addressing and preventing crime.
We are thankful for our partnership with the Farmington Police Department, which enables us to maintain this valuable program. Our shared goal is to protect, educate, and inspire every student, helping them to reach their fullest potential.
