Project Lead the Way at Farmington High School

Welcome to the FHS Engineering Department!
 
My name is Eric Johnson and I'm one of two PLTW Engineering Teachers currently at the High School.  We are excited to be able to bring 8 of the 10 total National PLTW Engineering courses to our students.  This will be my 14th year teaching PLTW for the Farmington School District and I can't wait to share with you all the awesome stuff that engineering has to offer.
 
Our classes are designed to offer a program sequence that will prepare students for college or a career based on their interest.  We offer some type of college credit or industry recognized credential for most of our courses.  We offer engineering, robotics, machining and automation, computer science, biomedical, woodworking, and construction.  Our program brings high quality and engaging STEM curriculum to all students grades 7-12.  We currently have Gateway for grades 7/8, and Engineering, Biomed, and Computer Science career pathways for grade 9-12.
 
In short, PLTW is a program that teaches problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork skills.  The basis of the curriculum is solving problems through collaboration using creativity and teamwork (and some really cool tools/equipment/software).  So, depending on the classes you take you may solve problems in many different fields including mechanical engineering, computer science, robotics, manufacturing, electronics, architecture, and construction.  Students engage in these fields through hands-on projects in a student centered classroom. The skills learned in our program build upon the concepts and knowledge that was introduced in our middle school PLTW Gateway Program, which has been a PLTW Distinguished School since 2018.  Most importantly, these skills can often be utilized immediately in your everyday life where problem solving is a daily requirement and not just for engineers.

**Farmington High School is mindful of the burden COVID-19 has placed on families in our community. As FHS teachers prepare and plan for the 2021-22 school year, students and families will notice minimal school supplies required for classes.
