Welcome to Mrs. Black's ELA 2 and 3 Classes
In my classes this year, we will be reading, writing, discussing, and presenting on a number of topics, with a focus on world literature in ELA 2 and on literature by American writers in ELA 3. Together, we’ll work on strategies to develop your student's skills as readers, writers, communicators, and critical thinkers.
This is my third year teaching high school ELA, and, while I haven't been at Farmington High School long, I truly love my job and my students. I majored in English Literature in college, and I always knew that I wanted to teach. After graduating with my B.A., I took a 10-year professional detour, working as a corporate communicator and digital content specialist. When my son, Henry, entered kindergarten, I was able to complete my teaching certification and begin my teaching career.
When I'm not at school, I'm spending time with Henry, who is 8, and my husband, Michael, who teaches middle school social studies. We live in an old house in Bonne Terre with five lazy cats. I love reading, gardening, hiking, and occasionally binge-watching a good show on Netflix. I also like to pretend that my letter to Hogwarts got lost in the mail. (I'm a Hufflepuff, for the record.)
I look forward to getting to know my students and their families this year!
